The project, part of Dubai’s expanding real estate landscape, will see the Belgian company undertake dredging, land reclamation, beach profiling, and sand placement. Nakheel, part of Dubai Holding Real Estate, has awarded a contract worth AED810 million ($221 million approximately) to Jan De Nul Dredging LTD for marine works on Palm Jebel Ali. The project, part of Dubai’s expanding real estate landscape, will see the Belgian company undertake dredging, land reclamation, beach profiling and sand placement.

Nakheel signs major Palm Jebel Ali contract with Jan De Nul Dredging

The contract aims to support the construction of villas across all fronds of Palm Jebel Ali. Jan De Nul Dredging, a member of the Jan De Nul Group, is expected to complete the marine works in just over two years, with mobilization activities already underway. The first eight fronds of the project will be ready for villa infrastructure and civil works by the first quarter of 2025, Nakheel said in a statement on Monday. This development follows the recent award of two infrastructure contracts, including the construction of a new public access road from Sheikh Zayed Road and improvements to roadways and lighting from the mainland to Palm Jebel Ali.

The project, unveiled by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is set to offer a range of amenities for residents and visitors. It aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and marks the beginning of a new growth corridor in the Jebel Ali area. Khalid Al Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Real Estate said: “Partnering with Jan De Nul Dredging reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. As Nakheel intensifies its development activity under Dubai Holding, the expertise of Jan De Nul Dredging in marine, civil construction and environmental projects is pivotal as we accelerate progress on this transformational development.

“Aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan vision, Palm Jebel Ali is set to become a global destination that will offer residents the opportunity to experience a luxurious waterfront lifestyle with access to sweeping beachfront and pristine waters while setting new standards in quality living and sustainability.” Palm Jebel Ali launched more than 700 units of its Phase 1 frond villas last year, featuring eight styles of homes.

The island is planned to span 13.4 kilometers, with 16 fronds and 91 kilometers of beachfront, aligning with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan‘s goal of expanding public beach access. The project is scheduled for handover in late 2026 and is expected to become a residential and leisure destination.
